Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking Victim Identifiers
Here a some of the signs that a minor may be the victim of Sex Trafficking:
- Under 18 and engaged in forced prostitution
- Under 18 and not attending school (or is frequently absent)
- Under 18 and ‘dating’ much older, abusive and controlling adults
- Possesses a false ID (or multiple), and is dishonest about age
- Has recurring STI’s and/or STD’s
- Has large amounts of cash, jewelry and/or new clothing
- Possesses hotel room keys
- Pagers and/or cell phones that parents/guardians are not paying for with very restricted communication
- Displays signs of ‘branding’ (tattooing of the traffickers name, barcodes or symbols of money very often on the neck)
- Lacks knowledge about local community or whereabouts
- Signs of physical assault (cigarette burns, bruises and cuts)
